Project Briefing
The scope of the DaVinci Academy project involved converting a portion of an 80-year-old historic American Can building into a charter school. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to the required core curriculum, the school offers courses in traditional visual arts, film, stage lighting and sound, stagecraft, theatre arts, dance and movement. These courses required R&O to transform parts of the building into studio practice and theatre spaces for students.
The renovation added music rooms, office space, a board room, classrooms, science labs and a computer lab. New construction added a gymnasium, auditorium and theatre, and a mechanical room.
